Friday's Faces from the Past - Old photo album

I love old photos and every now and then I buy photos or albums when the show up in my way. My ambition is always to scan them and upload them to photo databases like Porträttfynd and such, hoping someone will know who it is on the picture. Anyhow, there isn't always enough time so meanwhile I publish some of them on my blog.

This is an album I bought a couple of years ago. Most of the photos are from the north-west area of Skåne, like Helsingborg, Råå, Åstorp and Landskrona and a couple of them are from the US (Chicago and Massachusetts).

The album

The photo below is one of the few hints to who the owner of this album was. The man in the picture is cousin Olson and it is from Chicago.

One of the photos are from Chicago and it is one of the few that has a name on
the back: cousin Olson

I just love this photo, that could have been on any Facebookstatus and it has been published before on this blog ( http://cousinlinda.blogspot.se/2014/04/friday-funny-party-time.html)

Friday's Faces from the Past

Last weekend my local genealogy society celebrated its 30-year birthday.

On my to-do list was making place cards for the board members since we were to host a table or two each.

So, I wanted to make something more special than just an ordinary card and this is how they turned out:

How I did:

  • I bougt letters of cardboard at my local craftshop.
  • I printed out old photographs I had scanned on my computer. Cut them in the right sized and glued them onto the letter.
  • On the other side of the letter I glued paper with nice patterns, like scrapbooking paper. On one letter I also glued an copy of an old document.
  • I used glitter glue to decorate, both around the letter and on the pictures.
  • I glued a nametag on the letter.
  • On the bottom I typed the date and the name of the person or persons in the picture.

At my table I had an L of course. In the picture was my grandmothers uncle Voldemar Verno (a blog post about him: http://cousinlinda.blogspot.se/2014/02/sibling-saturday-part-5-voldermar-verno.html ) which led to an discussion about doing genealogy in Estonia and cyrillic handwriting.

Friends or relatives - Friday's Faces from the Past

Every now and then I look trough my collection of scanned old photographies. Most of them belonged to my great grandfather Nils Anton Berlin and great grandmother Hanna Persson in Farstorp so probably they are a mix of their relatives and friends on their both family lines. And no, no notes of names anywhere, I mean, they were fully aware of who all these people were.

When looking I usually notice some new detail. I try to figure out by the clue of how many people there are on the picture, male/females, children and age what family it might be.

So, there are a some people that appears in more than one photo and today I am looking at two specific photos. One is of five men in uniform. One of them,  I think is a brother of my great grandmother.

Then there is this other man who appears on other pictures as well in uniform. Now I am thinking that he might be the same man that also appears on other photos that are more like family group photos.

Man in the middle might be my great-grandmothers brother. The man to the left, who is he?

The man in the back to the right, who is he?

So, is it possible that those two men are one and the same? 5-10 years of time difference between the photos perhaps. The lips, nose and ears looks pretty much the same I think.

Same man?

Now, if it happens to be the same man, then who is he? A relative or a good friend someone got to know when being in the military? A neighbor?

And the children on the second picture, are they siblings?  I haven't found any relative that had seven children, five girls and two boys. Or, they could be cousins or even not related at all.

Anyhow, there are plenty of people in the pictures, meaning there would probably be more copies of those pictures. Perhaps even with names on it.

Lots of questions still waiting for answers, they joy of genealogy - endless problem solving.

Have a nice Friday!

Friday's faces from the past - Unknown family

This is a picture from one of the albums from my grand aunt and uncle. So, it might be relatives to me through my grand aunt or it might be relatives to my grand uncle.

I can't make up my mind if they look happy or sad in the picture. They sure look like they have worked hard in their lives. I like how many details that is visible in the environment, the roof,  the windows, the buckets and the clothes the people are wearing.
